De Servaasbron bij Maastricht.

Een bron, de plek waar water uit de grond komt: bijzonder, inderdaad. Maar wat is er bij sommige bronnen dat hen speciale kracht wordt toegeschreven? Wat is er aan deze bron te zien, te voelen, te vermoeden? Daar begint mijn zoektocht: wat is er op deze plaats, wat is hier zo anders? Ik maak foto’s en bekijk ze, combineer en zoek.

Margrietje : Wat maakt de mens tot mens, wat maakt deze mens tot deze mens?

Margrietje, mijn nichtje, geboren 13 mei 1987. Na vijf maanden van groeien en ontdekken wordt ze ernstig ziek. En in heel korte tijd verandert dat intelligente, actieve kind. Met behulp van medicijnen ontstaat er moeizaam een soort evenwicht. Ze kan bewegen, leert zitten (maar net), en reageert op een heel indirecte manier op haar omgeving. Eind januari 2004, na bijna 17 jaar, is ze na een korte ziekte overleden. En in alle herinneringen over haar komt telkens naar boven dat zij mensen aan zich kon binden, liefde kon losmaken op een manier die niet te omschrijven valt. Eerst zo actief, alert, contact zoekend en open.  Daarna schijnbaar niet in staat contact te leggen, direct te reageren. Niet in staat te doen wat voor ons de manier is om het leven zin te geven, mens te zijn. Wat maakte Margrietje tot wie zij was? Ik heb foto’s van haar gemaakt en na haar dood bekijk ik die en zoek of de foto’s meer laten zien dan ik eerst zag.   

De foto's zijn 50 euro per stuk, exclusief btw en verzendkosten en zonder lijst. Ze zijn afgedrukt op fotopapier en zijn 30 bij 45 cm.

A well, a spot were water comes out of the earth: special, indeed. But what makes people think that some wells are sacred? What is there to see, to feel, to imagine? There starts my search: what is it that makes this place a special place? What is different? I take pictures, look at them, combine them.

Margrietje: what makes a human beïng to human, what makes this human beïng to this human beïng?

Margrietje, my niece. Born 13 May 1987. After five months of growth and development she became seriously ill. In a very short time that intelligent, active child changed. With medication, a difficult balance was reached. She could move, learned to sit and reacted in a very indirect way to her surroundings. In the beginning of 2004 she died, almost 17 years old. She could bind people to her, could gain love in a way that I can't describe. She couldn't talk, didn't react to what you said to her, it was never clear what she could understand from what was going on around her. Unable to do the things that are important for us to give life sense. What made Margrietje who she was? I made photos from her and after her death I watched them and searched for answers.

12 pictures, formed out of a lot of different pictures in a search for what is hidden. Making visible the invisible. To understand that which is not incomprehensible.
